Erectile Dysfunction and Alcohol

At different times alcohol was treated differently. It was considered unsound and harmful and was prohibited to some extent; now some researches claim the necessity to preserve a small amount of it in blood for the better performance of the organism and it is even considered an advantage for health if taken moderately.

It is not strictly clear how alcohol influences sexual health and if this influence is definitely good or bad. In order to understand the connection some mechanisms of erection should be observed. Stimulated either through the physical touch or sensory perception the brain sends signal to the muscles of penis to relax and this raises the blood flow. The blood pressure in penis creates an erection. Therefore patients suffering from the blood pressure conditions or illnesses that evoke hardening of the blood vessels (i.e. arterioscelerosis or diabetes, and etc.) generally have problems with erection. Taking in mind how alcohol works and that it increases blood volume the conclusion can be made about its assistance with erection. As long as its amount is preserved in the organism it is supposed to help and not interfere; it also eliminates anxiety and nervousness which are frequent reasons for the ED in young men.

Nevertheless this assumption should not be taken for granted. Alcohol is definitely not a cure for a problem and its intoxication can give you a chance of a good sexual activity as well as not. Therefore it is recommended not to rely so much on such means of "treatment" as well as on drugs and smoking. The latter are only able to impair the condition and they are in charge of almost the fourth of the responded cases of ED.
