Osteoporosis

Like all other tissues, bone can break and then repair itself. However bone reconstruction ability diminishes with age, decreasing bones density and causing spaces (small holes) in the tissue. As a result, bones get fragile and provoke compressions in the vertebra or fractures in the hip. Calcium, protein and collagen are substances of which bones are made up; lack of these results in osteoporosis. In most cases osteoporosis affects hips, wrists and the spine causing fractures. Nevertheless, all skeletal bones are prone to osteoporosis-related problems.

It is difficult to notice osteoporosis symptoms unless a bone fracture occurs; this provokes excruciating pain which radiates to all body parts. Healing takes a long time and in such a way osteoporosis can provoke fracture in other bones.

As a matter of fact, osteoporosis can’t be treated totally, although it can be controlled and prevented. Preventive measures will enhance bone strength and density. Early diagnosis of the condition and proper treatment will significantly reduce the risk of fractures in future.
