Surgery for Erectile Dysfunction

ED is inability to achieve and maintain erection. The condition is tolerated very hard by men because they see is not only just as an illness. They feel as if they have been deprived of their masculinity. The condition is generally evoked by the combination of physical and psychological reasons; and, though, it makes men so desperate it is not hopeless. There are various kinds of therapies such as herbs and drugs and exercises; and also, perhaps, less popular but not less effective means - surgery.

Generally minor surgeries in men with ED are carried out with the following purposes: first, to implant a special device that will be able to make a penis erect when needed; secondly, to reconstruct arteries and allow a normal blood flow into a penis without interference; and thirdly, to block those veins that drain the blood from the penis therefore not allowing the erection to take place.

What concerns the first, implantable devices, also called prostheses, they represent malleable rods that are implanted in the twin chambers going along a penis. It does not give any trouble or affect in any way the size of a penis but it requires manual adjustment. There is a risk of gaining an infection as well.

For those who do not find prostheses suitable there are inflatable implants. They enlarge the size of the penis and are of better assistance with erection. They make the penis look more normal and natural.

Reconstruction of arteries is needed when they are blocked and the obstruction interferes with the blood flow. The operation is indicated only for young men with minor blockage; it is contraindicated for elderly people who have multiple arteries blockage and the surgery can be fraught with dangerous consequences.

The condition of ED is serious and requires treatment. Do your best to define the main cause of it and select an appropriate treatment; if it is surgery, make sure you have no contraindications to it.
