The medication is prescribed in the situation when gallstones must be dissolved provided the patient cannot get rid of them by means of the surgery as it is impossible or undesired (i.e. in elderly, ill and frail patients or those having bad response to anesthesia). Another therapeutic indication is keeping the gallstone formation in people on diets presupposing speedy weight loss. The medication can be available under a trade-mark name Urso 250 and in this case it treats illness of liver uprising from bile ducts hardening and blockage.

Actigall performs well with small or "floatable" (that means high in cholesterol stones) and it doesn't work for calcified cholesterol stones, radiolucent bile pigment stones or radio-opaque stones. The medication refers to the group of the long-lasting ones and may require months to produce any more or less visible effect. There is a possibility that your gallstones appear again or do not dissolve entirely. The medicine is taken with meals 4 times per day. Do not make up for the left out dose taking two pills at once.

Refrain from taking the medication provided you have hypersensitivity reaction to ursodiol or to other bile acids. Problems of biliary tract and some of the pancreas and liver illnesses may serve as contraindications for the drug usage as well. Pregnant and breast-feeding women must be careful taking the medication and for safe effect check the possible consequences with the physician. Consider all the prescribed and over-the-counter medications that you want to take simultaneously with Actigall as they are able to alter the final result.
