Altocor refers to the group of medications that reduce the level of cholesterol (lipoprotein (LDL) and all total cholesterol) and bar it from further spreading. Hence it prevents the risk of various heart diseases.

The administration is defined by the prescription and should be followed. It is supposed to be taken regularly not exceeding the dose and prescribed period. Do not make up for the left out dose taking two pills at once. Sometimes a prolonged period of administration is necessary for the treatment to be effective. Altocor is taken with a glass of water; no transformation should be made to the pills; keep it in a dark dry place at room temperature.

Refrain from taking the drug provided you have hypersensitivity to lovastatin. Pregnant or breast-feeding women are forbidden to take the medication. Patients with liver or kidney problems must not take the medication as well as those with history of a muscle disorder or a blood disorder; or having diabetes. There is a strong recommendation that you do without rich in fat food and cholesterol, alcohol and grapefruit products.
