The medication represents an alcohol-abuse deterrent. The mechanism of its functioning is the following: the drug evokes adverse effects with every portion of alcohol either small or large taken therefore barring the breakdown of alcohol.

Contraindicative factors are: hypersensitivity to Antabuse or resembling drugs, problems with heart, state of pregnancy and breast-feeding, history of brain damage or diabetes or seizures and etc.

The medication should not be combined with the following drugs: anticoagulants, benzodiazepines, isoniazid, or phenytoin and alcohol-containing remedies.
