The medication represents a penicillin antibiotic and consists of two main ingredients: amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium; the former is responsible for the struggling against bacteria; the latter refers to clavulanic acids and has the task to combat those specific bacteria that do not react to penicillins and other antibiotics. The following contagions are treated by Augmentin: pneumonia, sinusitis, and urinary tract infections, ear infections, bronchitis, and infections of the skin also. It is not used for the treatment of viral infections.
