The medication refers to the fluoroquinolones and it works by interfering with the protein production therefore barring the particular bacteria from distribution. It doesn't treat viral infections.

The medicine can be unsafe for a fetus and infant therefore pregnant and nursing women are advised to consult the doctor before taking it. Refrain from taking it if you have intolerance reaction to moxifloxacin or resembling drugs. A heart rhythm disorder, problems with liver, kidneys or joints, myasthenia gravis, seizures and hypokalemia, history of "Long QT syndrome require a physician's consultation. It is forbidden to combine the medicine with antacids, vitamins, mineral supplements, sucralfate or didanosine at the same time. All the medications you need to take simultaneously are better to be checked with the physician in advance.

The therapy presupposes that you complete the course and not terminate the medication administration even if you start to feel better. It is supposed to be taken regularly not exceeding the dose and prescribed period. Do not make up for the left out dose taking two pills at once. Take the medication with sufficient amount of water on a regular basis. Refrain from excessive sunlight while on therapy with Avelox.

The medication can have some adverse effects (i.e. tendon swelling or tearing) and other mild or more severe. Provided you get any ill-effects, suspect an overdose or have additional questions concerning the medication contact your doctor or local pharmacist.
