The medication is presupposed for the treatment of ulcerative colitis. Also bears the names Rowasa, Pentasa, and Asacol.

The way of administration of Canasa Suppositories presupposes that the drug is taken twice or thrice a day and retained for 1 to 3 hours at least for the period of 3 to 6 weeks. Avoid too much handling as the suppositories are intended to melt at body temperature.

Do not take Canasa provided you have hypersensitive reaction to mesalamine (active ingredient) or salicylates, foods or preservatives; kidney problems or simultaneous administration of Dipentum (anti-inflammatory drug) should be considered with the doctor. Be careful combining the remedy with sulfasalazine (Azulfidine) and other additional medications as well as their interaction can lead to unpredicted effects. Pregnant women require consultation before taking Canasa; breast-feeding ones must not take it. Refrain from giving it to kids as the effects are unknown.

The medication has a number of adverse effects such as bloody diarrhea, cramping, fever, rash and etc. Provided you have any worrying sensations, suspect an overdose or have some questions apply to your physician or other healthcare provider.
