Cardizem refers to calcium channel blockers. It works by retarding the electrical conduction in the heart, therefore slowing heart rate, and it also performs by normalizing heart rhythm function. Therapeutic indications are hypertension, chest pain and some rhythm disturbance of the heart (supraventricular tachycardia, etc.). The reactions of heart rate to atrial fibrillation and flutter can also be controlled with the help of the drug to some extent. It might be taken in combination with dieting and a program of physical exercises for better effect to be achieved.

The drug must be used without any transformation; tablets taken whole with water; regular schedule must be adhered to. The medication should be taken during the whole period of therapy. Do not make up for the left out dose taking two pills at once. It is recommended to do without alcohol during the period of treatment.

Breast-feeding and nursing women should be careful with the medicine and get a proper consultation beforehand. Children are better not given the medication. Provided you have hypersensitivity to diltiazem make your doctor aware of it. "Sick sinus syndrome" or "AV block", heart attack of a recent kind, liver or kidneys problems, congestive heart failure or low blood pressure are contraindications for the therapy with the drug.
