Generic name of the medicine is lithium. It is intended for the treatment of manic episodes in patients with bipolar disorder. It is a preparation of an antimanic agent and changes certain chemicals' balance in the brain.

Eskalith is supposed to be taken regularly not exceeding the dose and prescribed period. Take the medicine either with or after meals. Do not make up for the left out dose taking two pills at once. Be careful giving it to elderly people and do not use it in children younger than 12 years of age.

Do not take it if you have intolerance reaction to the drug. The medicine is of danger for a fetus and infant therefore pregnant and nursing women are forbidden to take it. Problems with liver, kidneys or heart, low blood sodium level, state of dehydration and the therapy with an ACE inhibitor, brain or nerve problems and else are better to be discussed with a physician beforehand. It is recommended to be careful while combining the remedy with acetazolamide, butyrophenones, iodide preparations and nondepolarizing neuromuscular blockers. All the supplementary medications are better to be checked with the physician in advance.
