Generic name of the medicine is metformin. It's a preparation of a biguanide antidiabetic. Therapeutic indication: type 2 diabetes.

Contraindications: intolerance to Glucophage SR, congestive heart failure, low blood oxygen levels, kidney or liver problems, high blood ketone or acid levels, dehydration. Problems with liver, other intolerance reactions, heart problems, lung or breathing problems, vomiting, diarrhea, poor health or nutrition, low blood calcium or vitamin B12 levels, or anemia, an infection, fever or recent injury - all this should be considered before taking the medication. If you are in the state of pregnancy or you are breast-feeding it is not recommended to take the drug. It is crucial to be careful while combining the medication with different drugs (especially with amiloride, calcium channel blockers, corticosteroids, diuretics, estrogen, hormonal contraceptives, insulin, isoniazid, nicotinic acid, sympathomimetic, thyroid hormones and some others) for fear of their undesirable interaction.

The drug should be taken on a regular basis. Do not make any transformation to the pills; the tablets are required to be taken whole. Do not make up for the left out dose taking two pills at once. Be very careful giving the remedy to kids younger than 10 years of age and to elderly people.
