For simple and migraine headaches the medication bearing the name Imitrex is used. The mechanism of its functioning is the following: it narrows the vessels in the brain and affects the chemicals in the organism that evoke sickness, aches and light and sound sensitivity. Do not try to use the medicine as a preventive measure for migraines or headaches; it will be effective only for the pain already in progress.

Imitrex should be taken with the first signs of pain and not exceeding the dose as it may lead to undesired and serious consequences. The medication is available in the form of tablets and nasal spray and doesn't actually require a dosing schedule.

Contraindicative factors are intolerance response to sumatriptan (active compound), problems with heart or liver, high blood pressure, case of sore throat or else. Pregnant and breast-feeding women are better to be careful with the drug.

Be careful when taking the medication in combination with antidepressants and some drugs as almotriptan, eletriptan or else and never use it with monoamine oxidase inhibitor.
