It is a preparation of a calcium channel blocker (generic name of the drug is verapamil). Therapeutic indication: hypertension.

Contraindications: hypersensitive response to the medication, aspirin or an NSAID; heart problems, atrial fibrillation or flutter and a pre-excitation syndromes; current therapy with dofetilide, eletriptan, erythromycin, or disopyramide. Other possible contraindications: history of liver or kidney illnesses, low blood pressure, muscular dystrophy, or neurologic disease. The medicine can be dangerous for a fetus and infant therefore pregnant and nursing women are advised to consult the doctor before taking it. The additional medications you need to take must be checked with the physician: beta-blockers, ketolides, rifampin, St. John's wort, aldosterone blockers, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, nondepolarizing muscle relaxants, quinidine, or theophyllines, and some others. Refrain from grapefruit products.

The mode of administration: the medicine must be taken on a regular basis not exceeding the prescribed amount. Should you leave out a dose do not try to make up for it taking a double one. Do not make any transformation to the controlled -release pills.
