Generic name of the medicine is levothyroxine. It is a replacement for a hormone produced by the thyroid gland that regulates the body's energy and metabolism. Therapeutic indication: hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone) and also goiter (enlarged thyroid gland). It is not presupposed for the treatment of obesity or weight problems.

Contraindications: intolerance response to levothyroxine, a heart attack, thyrotoxicosis, an adrenal gland problem. The following medications are required to be taken at least 4 hours before or 4 hours after you take levothyroxine: calcium carbonate, sucralfate, sodium polystyrene sulfonate, antacids containing aluminum, ferrous sulfate iron supplement, cholesterol-lowering drugs and colestipol.
