Generic name of the drug is lithium. It is designed for manic depression treatment and it functions by influencing the sodium flow through nerve and muscle. The latter is responsible for the appearance of excitement or mania. Other brand names: Eskalith and Lithobid.

The medication is not recommended provided you have intolerance to it. The drug is of danger to an infant and a fetus therefore it is forbidden for the women that are in the state of pregnancy or nursing. The following conditions are contraindicative for the therapy with the drug: underactive thyroid, problems with liver or heart, severe condition of any kind, hyponatremia or dehydration.

The drug should be taken on a regular schedule not exceeding the amount. No transformation should be made to a pill; it must be consumed whole. It is advised also to drink enough liquid in order not to become dehydrated. Should you leave out a dose do not make up for it taking two at once. Do not use it in children under 12 years of age.

On the subject of drug's compatibility with other medications (i.e. acetazolamide, carbamazepine, calcium channel blockers, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, NSAIDs and some others) contact your doctor or other healthcare provider.
