Generic name of the medication is gemfibrozil. It is the preparation of an antihyperlipidemic agent and it functions by reducing triglycerides blood levels and "bad"cholesterol, it also increases blood levels of "good" cholesterol. Therapeutic indications: treatment of high blood cholesterol and triglycerides. The drug is usually taken alongside with an appropriate diet.

The medication is supposed to be taken on a regular basis two times a day half an hour before your breakfast and supper. Do not exceed the necessary amount or the prescribed period of administration. Should you leave out a dose do not make up for it taking two at once.

Contraindications or conditions that may require doctor's consideration: intolerance response to Lopid, severe cirrhosis or liver condition, severe kidney illness, gallstones, or gallbladder illness, provided you are on the therapy with an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor or repaglinide. The medication is incompatible with oral anticoagulants, bexarotene or oral antidiabetic agents, sulfonylureas. Breastfeeding women are forbidden to take the medicine; pregnant ones should consult the doctor beforehand.
