Generic Maxaquin Active Ingredient: Lomefloxacin

Generic name of the medicine is lomefloxacin. The preparation refers to fluoroquinolone antibiotics and functions by preventing certain bacteria from multiplying. Therapeutic indications are bacterial contagions.

Contraindications or conditions that may require doctor's consideration: intolerance response to Maxaquin, recent therapy with a live typhoid vaccine; other possible contraindications are Alzheimer disease, a CNS disease, hardening of the arteries in the brain, seizures, tendonitis, diarrhea, heart problems, a stomach infection, liver or kidney problems and some others. The medication is incompatible with droperidol or foscarnet. Make sure there is an interval of 2 hours before or 4 hours after you take antacids containing aluminum, calcium, magnesium; didanosine; iron salts; sucralfate; or zinc salts. Refrain from alcohol being on the therapy with the drug.

The medication is supposed to be taken on a regular basis according to a strict schedule with sufficient amount of water. Do not exceed the necessary amount or the prescribed period of administration; a full course should be competed in order for the medication to produce its effect. Should you leave out a dose do not make up for it taking two at once. Do not give it to children who are not 18 years of age. Pregnant women should consult a doctor on the account of drug administration; breast-feeding ones are prohibited to take it.

The medicine can make you giddy and sleepy and sensitive to the sun. Adverse effects of the medication can be mild and severe and in case you experience any, or you overdosed apply to your doctor for help.
