Generic name of the medicine is amiloride (a potassium-sparing diuretic) and hydrochlorothiazide (a thiazide diuretic). The preparation refers to diuretics and functions by treating symptoms of fluid retention (edema) and hypertension.

The medication is supposed to be taken on a regular basis with meals. To avoid disturbance while sleeping caused by increased urination it is advised to take the drug before 6 pm. Should you leave out a dose do not make up for it taking two at once. Be careful giving it to kids and elderly people. Do not exceed the necessary amount or the prescribed period of administration.

Contraindications or conditions that may require doctor's consideration: intolerance response to Moduretic or any other sulfonamide, severely decreased kidney function, or high blood potassium, problems with urination, if you are on the therapy with other potassium-sparing diuretics, supplements, salt substitutes containing potassium, or dofetilide, if you have cirrhosis or liver problems, diabetes, asthma, heart problems, elevated blood acid and some other conditions. The medicine can be harmful for a fetus and a baby therefore pregnant and nursing women are advised to consult the doctor before taking it. The medication is incompatible with potassium-sparing diuretics, cholestyramine or colestipol, NSAIDs, barbiturates, corticosteroids, diazoxide, lithium, or nondepolarizing neuromuscular blockers, ACE inhibitors, diabetes medicines and some others.
