This tetracycline antibiotic (generic name - doxycycline monohydrate) cures contagions created by bacteria. It works by killing them or interfering with their further spreading. Therapeutic indications: acne or certain amoeba infections (in this case can be combined with some other medicines), the progression of anthrax after exposure. It is not intended for the treatment of viral infections.

The therapy presupposes that you complete the course and not terminate the medication administration even if you start to feel better. It is supposed to be taken regularly not exceeding the dose and prescribed period. Do not make up for the left out dose taking two pills at once. It is forbidden to combine the remedy with antacids containing magnesium, calcium, aluminum, and bismuth-containing products; also iron; urinary alkalinizers and multivitamins with minerals; the interval of 2 hours before or after Monodox should be tolerated.

Do not take it if you have intolerance reaction to Monodox, tetracycline antibiotics or resembling drugs. Other possible contraindications: recent therapy with acitretin, isotretinoin, penicillin or live oral typhoid vaccine received lately; diarrhea, a history of lupus, or porphyria. All the supplementary medications (i.e. barbiturates, acitretin, anticoagulants, hormonal birth control pills, digoxin, isotretinoin, methotrexate, carbamazepine, hydantoins etc.) are better to be checked with the physician in advance. The medicine is of danger for a fetus and infant therefore pregnant and nursing women are advised to consult the doctor before taking it. Do not give it to children who are not 8 years of age.
