Generic Norvir Active Ingredient: Ritonavir

Generic name of the medicine is ritonavir. It's a preparation of an antiviral medication referring to the group of protease inhibitors and intended for prevention of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) cells from spreading and growing. It does not cure HIV or AIDS.

It is crucial to be careful while combining the medication with different drugs and equally important not to take it simultaneously with alfuzosin, amiodarone, bepridil, flecainide, propafenone, quinidine, cisapride, pimozide, midazolam and some others for fear of their dangerous interaction.

Abstain from taking the drug provided it evokes hypersensitivity response in you. Problems with liver, diabetes, high cholesterol or triglycerides should be considered before taking the medication. If you are in the state of pregnancy make your doctor aware of it; breast-feeding is forbidden when taking the drug and it is generally forbidden to women with AIDS or HIV. Be careful with alcohol beverages and refrain from unprotected sex.

The drug should be taken on a regular basis with meals. In order to gain the most effect from the treatment the drug is frequently prescribed in a complex with other medicines. Do not make up for the left out dose taking two pills at once.

It is important to remember that Norvir is not a remedy for HIV or AIDS. Mind that the treatment with the medicine does not guarantee that HIV won't transfer to another person during sexual contact. There is a possibility that treatment with the medication during the pregnancy period reduces the chance of the child inheriting HIV.
