Generic Oxsoralen Active Ingredient: Methoxsalen

The medication has a generic name of methoxsalen, refers to skin coloring and light sensitizing agents and is presupposed for the treatment of severe psoriasis and vitiligo; can also be given before ultraviolet radiation. Skin symptoms of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma can be treated with certain types of the drug.

The following conditions should be reported to a doctor beforehand: albinism, liver disease, history of arsenic therapy, eye problems, skin cancer, lupus, xeroderma and some others. Pregnant and breast-feeding women are better to avoid the drug.

The medication should be taken with water as a full tablet of by halves (in this case a half-hour interval between the pills should be preserved). Do not take the following medications simultaneously without doctor's approval: anthralin, diuretics, griseofulvin, nalidixic acid, retinoids and some others. They may lead to unpredictable interaction effects. If you change from hard tablets to soft-gelatin capsules be prepared that your UV treatment timing may also change.

The medication has a number of adverse effects, can make you more sun-sensitive, and more predisposed to cancer. It is recommended that you wear wrap-around sunglasses all the time when you see sunlight.
