Generic name of the drug is mesalamine; other brand names - Asacol, Lialda, Pentasa. The medication is presupposed for the treatment and prevention of ulcerative colitis, proctitis and proctosigmoiditis. It works by influencing the body substances responsible for diarrhea, tissue damage and inflammations.

Hypersensitive reaction to mesalamine, aspirin or other salicylates, problems with liver or kidneys, pyloric stenosis, congestive heart failure cannot be associated with the Pentasa therapy. Pregnant and nursing women are recommended to consult the doctor beforehand.

The mode of administration presupposes the medication to be taken with water. Do not exceed the prescribed norm and do not make up for a left out dose taking more medicine at a time than needed.
