Precose represents a glucosidase inhibitor and refers to diabetes medicines. It functions in a way that it slackens the enzyme responsible for turning carbohydrates into glucose. People suffering from type 2 diabetes (not type 1 diabetes patients) are treated with the drug. Generic name - acarbose. It can be used either alone or in complex with diet and exercise program.

Contraindications: hypersensitivity to Precose, conditions of cirrhosis of the liver, chronic bowel inflammation, ulcers, blockage of the stomach or intestine, a state of diabetic ketoacidosis, troubles with the heart, liver or eyes. The following conditions require a check with a doctor: states of pregnancy or nursing.

Precose is usually taken with meals. Do not exceed the prescribed period and the necessary amount. The therapy also includes dieting and a complex of physical exercises as a rule. Should you leave out a dose do not make up for it taking two at once as it may evoke overdose and unwanted effects. Make an interval between the drug and charcoal or digestive enzyme preparations. Children should not be given the drug. Be prepared that Precose is able to interact with other medications (anticoagulants, calcium channel blockers, insulin or sulfonylureas, digoxin) and as a result can bring about unpredictable effects.
