Generic name of the medication is Proscar; other brand names are Propecia, Proscar. The medication is designed for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. It functions in a way that it interferes with the transformation of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the latter being responsible for the illness progress.

The mode of administration presupposes the medication to be taken on a regular basis. Consume it either with food or not and wash down with water. Should you leave out a dose do not make up for it taking two at once as it may evoke overdose and unwanted effects. The medication should be kept in a cool and dry place.

It is prohibited to give the medication to women and children; it must not be even touched by them. Do not take the medicine provided you have intolerance response to the drug or resembling drugs like dutasteride (Avodart) or Propecia. Other possible contraindications are: problems with liver, a bladder muscle disorder, problems with urination, prostate cancer and some others.
