Generic Relenza Active Ingredient: Zanamivir

The preparation of an antiviral medication (generic name - zanamivir) is used in the treatment of influenza to reduce the duration and the severity of symptoms of the illness and also for the prevention of the disease. It interferes with the further spread of the virus in the organism. It is not presupposed for the treatment of common cold.

The preparation is intended for the patient with fly signs continuing more than 2 days. Children younger than 7 years of age are not recommended to be treated with the drug. Pregnant and nursing women should not be treated with Relenza if there is no urgent need. It should not be taken instead of a yearly flu shot; an inhaled nasal flu vaccine (FluMist) is supposed to be used 24 hours after the drug or a fortnight before.

Contraindications are: asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or any other chronic lung condition.

Terms of use: do not exceed the necessary period and required amount of the drug. The preparation has a specific way of administration; it is presented in the form of disk-shaped foil packs containing 4 blisters of medication. When you need to use the drug you should place these discs into a special device DISKHALER; the latter is presupposed for the drug inhaling. New blister is loaded every time you use it. DISKHALER is designed only for the usage of this very medication and should not be taken for any other; as soon as its shelf-life expired the device should be thrown away. The treatment fly dosage is 2 inhalations every 12 hours for 5 days; the prevention fly dosage is 2 inhalations every 24 hours for the period of 10 - 28 days.

Adverse effects mild or more severe can be evoked while using the medication in some patients. Should you have sighs of overdose or intolerance reaction apply for medical aid at once.
