Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) originates from the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) influence on the organism. HIV weakens it to the extend that it is unable to resist any contagion and the consequences are just disastrous. Retrovir alone or in the complex with other resembling medications is intended to interfere with the virus so that is spreads less rapidly.

The therapy with Retrovir is very individualized. The medication is supposed to be taken only by the person who was prescribed to use it. Stick to the dosage schedule (preferably a 4-hour break should be preserved; a 5-times-a-day schedule for pregnant women) and do not exceed it. It is crucial to be careful while combining it with different drugs and equally important not to take them simultaneously with Combivir or Trizivir.

It is important to remember that Retrovir is not a remedy for HIV or AIDS. Mind that the treatment with the medicine does not guarantee that HIV won't transfer to another person during sexual contact. There is a possibility that treatment with the medication during the pregnancy period reduces the chance of the child inheriting HIV. But the efficiency of the drug if taken for a prolonged period of time is still under investigation.
