Slo-bid refers to oral bronchodilator medications. Generic name is theophylline. Therapeutic indications are asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema.

The medication represents a controlled-release medication. The drug must be used without any transformation; tablets taken whole with water; regular schedule must be adhered to. If taken them once a day it should not be at night. The usual initial dose is one 150-milligram tablet every 12 hours. The medication should be taken during the whole period of therapy. Do not make up for the left out dose taking two pills at once. For an acute attack you should take an immediate-release medication instead of more amount of theophylline.

Pregnant and nursing women should be careful with the medicine and get a proper consultation beforehand. Provided you have hypersensitivity to the drug or resembling medicines make your doctor aware of it. An active peptic ulcer or a seizure disorder, also high fever, heart disease, liver disease, heartbeat irregularitie, an underactive thyroid gland, the flu or another viral illness are contraindications for the therapy with the drug. Do not combine the remedy with any drugs before you check the interaction with the doctor.
