It is a preparation of a calcium channel blocker (generic name of the drug is diltiazem hydrochloride). Therapeutic indication: angina caused by heart disease and hypertension.

The mode of administration: do not make any transformation to the extended-release tablets; take them whole. The recommended starting dosage should be checked with the doctor as well as the following regular norm. Should you leave out a dose do not try to make up for it taking a double one. Do not stop the administration abruptly.

Contraindications: hypersensitive response to the drug; heart problems, low blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, liver disease, recent heart attack. Other possible contraindications: heart failure, a recent heart attack or heart block, low blood pressure, a very slow heart rate, other heart problems, liver or kidney illness. The medicine can be dangerous for a fetus and infant therefore pregnant and nursing women are advised to consult the doctor before taking it. It can interact with some drugs (e.g. buspirone, carbamazepine, cimetidine, cyclosporine, local anesthetics or general anesthetics, lovastatin, also medicines for anxiety or difficulty sleeping, hypertension medicines, and some others) thus it is better to consult you doctor before combining the medicine with them.

The medication has a number of adverse effects. It can evoke constipation or diarrhea, difficulty sleeping, drowsiness or dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting and sexual dysfunction therefore should you experience any troublesome sensations contact your doctor immediately.
