It is a preparation of a calcium channel blocker (generic name of the drug is diltiazem hydrochloride). Therapeutic indication: angina caused by heart disease and hypertension.

The mode of administration: do not make any transformation to the controlled-release tablets; take them whole; wash them down with water. Should you leave out a dose do not try to make up for it taking a double one. Do not exceed the prescribed amount or a period of time. Do not stop the administration abruptly unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Contraindications: hypersensitive response to the drug; current therapy with erythromycin; heart problems, very low blood pressure, or fluid buildup in the lungs during or soon after a heart attack, atrial fibrillation or flutter and a preexcitation syndrome. Other possible contraindications: heart failure, a recent heart attack or heart block, low blood pressure, a very slow heart rate, other heart problems, liver or kidney illness. The medicine can be dangerous for a fetus and infant therefore pregnant and nursing women are advised to consult the doctor before taking it. It can interact with the following drugs: buspirone, carbamazepine, cimetidine, cyclosporine, digoxin, local anesthetics or general anesthetics, lovastatin, medicines for anxiety or difficulty sleeping, and some others.
