Generic Viracept Active Ingredient: Nelfinavir

Generic name of the medicine is nelfinavir. It's a preparation of an HIV protease inhibitor.

Remember that the drug is not a remedy for HIV or AIDS. Mind that the treatment with the medicine does not guarantee that HIV won't transfer to another person during sexual contact.

Contraindications: intolerance to Viracept; current therapy with alfuzosin, amiodarone, astemizole, carbamazepine, certain benzodiazepines, an ergot derivative, certain HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, phenobarbital, pimozide, omeprazole, quinidine, rifampin, St. John's wort, or terfenadine, and also eletriptan during the previous 72 hours. Problems with liver, other intolerance reactions, diabetes, high blood sugar, or hemophilia should be considered before taking the medication. If you are in the state of pregnancy make your doctor aware of it; breast-feeding is forbidden when taking the drug and it is generally forbidden to women with AIDS or HIV. Be careful with alcohol beverages and refrain from unprotected sex. It is crucial to be careful while combining the medication with different drugs for fear of their dangerous interaction.

The drug should be taken on a regular basis with water with food. In case you have troubles swallowing the drug whole, crush them and dissolve in water. In order to gain the most effect from the treatment the drug is frequently prescribed in a complex with other medicines. Do not make up for the left out dose taking two pills at once. If you need to take didanosine do it at least 1 hour before or more than 2 hours after Viracept. The medication should be taken during the full course of treatment in order to show any effect.
