Generic name of the medicine is ezetimibe and simvastatin. The former reduces the amount of cholesterol; the latter refers to HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors and it interferes with an enzyme responsible for cholesterol production. Therapeutic indications: high cholesterol; it also lessens the risk of heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes.

Contraindications: intolerance response to Vytorin, liver problems, recent therapy with an HIV protease inhibitor, a macrolide or ketolide antibiotic, mibefradil, or nefazodone. Other possible contraindications: kidney and muscle problems, low blood pressure, uncontrolled seizures, provided you have had an organ transplant and some others. The drug can be incompatible with amiodarone, ACE inhibitors, fibrates, bosentan, carbamazepine, anticoagulants, nicotinic acid and some others therefore you should be careful taking them together. Pregnant and breast-feeding women are prohibited to take it.

The remedy is intended to be taken on a regular basis with meals and for a better effect in the evening time. There should be an interval of 2 hours before or 4 hours after taking Vytorin if you need to use a bile acid sequestrant. It is advised that whole course of treatment was completed. Do not make up for a left out dose taking more medicine at a time than needed. The therapy is usually combined with a diet and exercise program. Abstain from grapefruit products.
